4th webinar for Ministers of Finance of African member States on energy prices

22 June, 2021
Online 3:00pm - 4:30pm (East African Time)

The United Nations economic commission for Africa is organizing the 4th  webinar for Ministers of Finance of African member States on energy prices in Africa on Tuesday, 22 June 2021 from 3:00pm to 4:30pm (East African Time). The webinar is pursuant to Ministers’ recommendations at the launch of the ECA Price Watch Centre for Africa last year, which aims to present the developments of the consumer price index and other related indices.

Access to cheap and clean energy is a condition and an essential component of Africa’s transformation and industrialization. In the context of Africa’s Continental Free Trade Area deployment and implementation, supplying our economies with affordable fuel is integral to supporting actions for faster achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Agenda 2063. The user tariffs are a reflection of the cost support to supply energy and the policies in place in countries. The analysis of these tariffs and their trends will serve as food for thought on potential strategies African countries can devise for effective and efficient generation and access of clean energy, such as electricity.
