ECA, YALDA, other partners announce competition to raise AfCFTA awareness among young Africans

17 August, 2021

WHAT: The AfCFTA Youth Creative Competition is an essay, infographics and animation competition, organized by the Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development in Africa (YALDA) in collaboration with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the International Trade Centre (ITC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Under the theme The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): What is in it for young Africans?’, the creative competition highlights the place of competitions and challenges in awakening the consciousness and inventiveness of the youth to contribute content that can further propel their own understanding of AfCFTA's instruments by using simple and relatable terms and concepts generated by youth themselves.

WHY:The purpose of the competition is to break information asymmetry among the youth on the AfCFTA and promote a bottom-up approach to the policy formulation and implementation by harnessing innovative youth-driven solutions that will contribute to active youth engagement in the popularization of the AfCFTA.

WHO:The AfCFTA Youth Creative Competition is open to all youth (18-35years) who are nationals of African countries, as well as those in the Diaspora. They should be able to create animation, infographics or write essays and other creative content on the potential impact of AfCFTA on the youth in Africa.
