The 2022 African Economic Conference: charting a new path for climate-smart development in Africa

WHO?

The President of Mauritius, Prithvirajsing Roopun and a government delegation; the president of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina; the Assistant Administrator and the Regional Director for Africa of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa, and leaders and representatives of African governments; UN Agencies, international organizations, the private sector, and academic institutions.   

African policymakers, ministers, economists, climate experts, researchers, youth, private sector leaders, development partners and academics will gather in Mauritius from 9-11 December for the 2022 African Economic Conference. The conference, which has the theme, ‘supporting climate-smart development in Africa, will provide a forum for discussion of Africa’s climate change challenges to identify opportunities and advance strategies for adaptation and mitigation.

Jointly organized by the African Development Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the conference will also provide a platform for key stakeholders to deliberate and draw lessons from successes and identify critical strategies for mobilizing financing to support low-carbon and climate-resilient development in Africa.

Over the three days, academics and young researchers will present solution-oriented research on how to accelerate climate action in Africa.
