African Trade Exchange (ATEX)

Overview
Among ECA's key priorities for the continent is to deepen regional integration, connectivity, trade, and resilience of supply chains through continental frameworks such as Africa's Continental Free Trade Areas (AfCFTA). Technical support for platforms like the African Trade Exchange (ATEX) digital platform facilitates trade and investment by enabling businesses and governments to securely and efficiently conduct transactions and exchange information.

Countries: All signatory Member States

Objective
Provide a business-to-business (B2B) / business-to-government (B2G) digital trade platform that allows for pooled procurement of essential commodities, availing transparent access to scarce supplies for countries.

Key results:
  • Launched by President Macky Sall of Senegal, President of the Republic of Senegal and Chairman of the African Union in May 2022.

  • Pooled procurement processes are taking place following procurement forms being sent out to member countries.

  • Sellers are onboarded on the platform.

  • Recently, ATEX was repurposed to assist African countries in dealing with shortages of food, fuel, and fertilizer due to the Ukraine crisis.
