AI Research Center, Congo Brazaville

Project Overview 

On 24 February 2022, ECA and the Government of the Republic of Congo inaugurated the African Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (ARCAI) in Congo Brazzaville - a center devoted exclusively to advancing research through artificial intelligence (AI). Located within the Denis Sassou-Nguesso University in Kintélé, the center is a place of cutting-edge research on AI, focusing on a human-centered approach to maximize the benefits for socio-economic good while countering the challenges associated with utilizing the technology.

Host country: Congo Brazaville 

Objective

  • Develop a coordinated plan to encourage AI education across the continent

  • Incentivize entrepreneurship and facilitate collaboration between AI researchers and experts in different sectors (health care, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing and etc.)

  • Setting out a road map to mobilize human and financial resources, including a pan-African AI fund to support coordinated efforts. Key result: Officially launched in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo. AU Artificial Intelligence Strategy (Harmonisation of Artificial Intelligence policy)
